Today, our Zeeland neighbours are marking the 75th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. They were liberated by the Allied attack on Walcheren Island.

Did you know that the advance started in Ostend? On 1 November 1944 dozens of ships set sail from Ostend. Taking Walcheren was part of the Allies’ plan to retake the mouth of the Scheldt and make the Port of Antwerp accessible again.
