Exhibition Operation North Sea 1944 - '45
Did you know that, during World War II, more than 2,700 ships were built in assembly lines? They were called Liberty ships.
Ships were in great demand, not in the least because all those that had sunk needed to be replaced. One of these mass-produced ships is lying on the seabed off the coast of Ostend: the Sampa. The Sampa used to carry armoured vehicles to the Continent. You can tell by the wheels that were found in her hull. Discover the remarkable story of her captain at Exhibition Operation North Sea 1944-’45.
