The Nieuwpoort Simliduinen – called after the nearby villa quarter - form part of a large-scale renaturalization project in the Yser plain and are protected under the Flemish Dune Decree and various European Directives

There isn’t a place on the Belgian Coast where you will find a river mouth with a tidal zone that is in complete harmony with the beach, the lower dunes and the dune-grass lands beyond, the moss dunes and the polders. A unique landscape!
Nieuwpoort’s marina is the largest in Northern Europe and home port to an incredible 2,000 pleasure crafts. Reason enough to take a look! When the sun is out, the boats sparkle in the sun, a spectacular sight.

This convivial polder village has quite a war history! Situated west of the Nieuwpoort-Diksmuide railway track, between Nieuwpoort and Diksmuide, this is where the Belgian army retreated to in October 1914 after the Battle of the Yser.
