#1 Concept Store Kabine Koksijde
My family and I explored the lovely Belgian seaside town of Nieuwpoort.
First stop of the day was the brand new concept store Kabine Koksijde.
The owner, Eliza De Waele, is one of thé nicest people in ‘blog-land’ and her new shop is just amazing! Lots of funky interior stuff (also for foodbloggers!) and a whole range of very cool baby-necessities. This mum-boss is on a roll!
Definitely worth while your visit whenever you’re in the area.
#2 Lunch at Kantine in Koksijde
We stayed for lunch at Kantine Koksijde which is located in the same place and is run by Eliza’s friend Aline.
They serve great coffee, let me tell you that, and the avo toast wasn’t too bad either!
#3 Stay overnight in Hotel Cosmopolite in Nieuwpoort
After that, it was only a short drive to Nieuwpoort-Bad where we stayed at the Hotel Cosmopolite. A family-friendly, three-star hotel in a prime location. Only a one-minute walk to either the beachfront or to the main shopping street. Perfect!
Our family room was rather basic, but all in all comfortable and breakfast in the morning was certainly good. Why is it that I always end up eating more than I should when I’m at the seaside? It must be the fresh air…
The downstairs bar and lobby area have obviously been refurbished recently and look quite lovely. It’s a great place to unwind with a drink or two after a busy day.
#4 Shopping at Eva Dew
Upon our arrival in Nieuwpoort, we first did a spot of shopping – yes, I was travelling with three ladies, remember…
Byevamaria loves discovering new hotspots and the new concept store Eva Dew was definitely one of them!
Shopping ànd chilling… all in one!
#5 Hiking on the beach
Nieuwpoort has broad sandy beaches, perfect for long walks.
Although the weather wasn’t all that great, it was still nice to feel the fresh sea air and to enjoy the outdoors.
#6 Ferry to the 'IJzermonding'
We also took the ferry across the harbour channel to explore a little bit of the beautiful nature reserve you can still find on that side. Crossings are frequently and free!
#7 Food and drink suggestions
Fish stew in Restaurant De Roos
Why not enjoy the world’s best fish stew at De Roos? The restaurant is located very conveniently straight opposite the tram stop in Nieuwpoort-Stad and serves a traditional cuisine, but with fresh produce straight out of the North Sea! Our fish stew with leek mash was really good and very tasteful. You can get a nice lunch menu for only 25 euros and that gives you the soup of the day and the choice between two mains. Natacha and Steve will give you a very warm welcome!
Italian food at Botticelli Trattoria Enoteca
Enjoy a wonderful Italian dinner at Botticelli Trattoria Enoteca
We especially enjoyed our tasty ‘misto antipasti’ and the ravioli with artichokes was really nice. Friendly service and funky interior.
#8 Beaufort 2018
Beaufort is a triennial art project that extends over the entire Belgian coastline. On the beach in Nieuwpoort-Bad you can find ‘Men’ by Nina Beier. We absolutely loved it and want to come back to see some of the other works. More info on the website!
Nieuwpoort is the kind of place that has something to offer all year round, be it lovely beach or nature walks, art, shopping or wining and dining. We definitely want to go back and stay longer!
