Celebrate Carnival in Ostend
Everyone’s welcome to come celebrate the Carnival weekend in Ostend on 8, 9 and 10 March!
Friday 8 March
According to annual tradition, the appointment of the Carnival Prince and Princess takes place at City Hall on Friday evening at 7 pm. This inaugural event is followed by the "Cimateire" procession at 8 pm. This traditional lantern procession ends at Groentemarkt where the doll Tjannie Carbon will be burnt. As of about 10 pm, you are invited to join the festivities in the carnival tent at Groentemarkt.
Saturday 9 March
Saturday is the carnival day for children. They have their own parade, after which a miniature doll of Tjannie Carbon is set on fire. There is also a mini-version of the traditional clog throwing. Groentenmarkt is the place to be for every child that loves carnival.
Sunday 10 March
On Sunday, at 3 pm, the big carnival parade goes through the city and ends at Wapenplein, where everyone gathers for the traditional throwing of clogs. The carnival weekend ends with various activities and concerts in the carnival tent on Groentenmarkt.
